Management Committee Briefing
The following points were covered at the August Committee Meeting:
• The Audited Accounts for 2016/17 were considered and approved for presentation to the membership at the forthcoming AGM. It was noted that the accounts show another successful year with the surplus generated being slightly greater than budgeted. It was also noted that the revaluation of the pension scheme deficit created a false picture by inflating the surplus figure by some £400,000.
• The Management Accounts for the first quarter of 2017/18 were considered and it was noted that whilst the first quarter will never give an accurate prediction of the years outcomes income was slightly up on the budget and overall spend was slightly below budget, giving a healthy picture.
• The annual Treasury Management Report was considered. This showed that the Association paid off £663,208 of loans in 2016/17 and was continuing to benefit from the very low interest rates being charged.
• The policies covering Financial Regulations, Financial Procedures and Treasury Management were all reviewed and revised policies approved.
• The quarterly Tenant Participation report highlighted satisfaction feedback for Committee. This showed that satisfaction with gas servicing, repairs and landscape maintenance was all very positive. Satisfaction with an electrical safety contract was less positive with the contractor acting below expectations when agreeing and maintaining access appointments. It was noted that agreement has already been made not to use this contractor again for this form of work. Complaints analysis also noted that complaints continue at a relatively low level and all complaints received were dealt with within agreed timescales.
• It was noted that the Scottish Housing Regulator will be carrying out a Data Validation Visit regarding Forth’s 2016/17 Annual Report on the Charter submission.
• An invitation from the Board at Rural Stirling Housing Association (RSHA), to meet to discuss potential interim Chief Officer cover at RSHA, was considered but Forth’s committee decided not to accept this invitation, on the basis that Forth required to retain the full focus of its staff team at this time.
